My precious Jillian, you are four months old!!! You have changed so much in just these past few weeks that it's hard to remember you as a fragile and delicate newborn. My love for you grows more and more each day. It's hard to imagine life without you and I can't wait to see what else is in store for us this month.
First, and absolutely, foremost this month, you have kicked the swaddle habit!!! I just want to shout it from the roof tops and do cart wheels around our cul-de-sac. This is a HUGE milestone. We have been swaddling you with one arm for about a month now. Some nights that seemed to work, and others, it didn't. It was a constant back and forth struggle all month long which made for many challenging and sleepless nights!!! You officially kicked the habit this weekend by chance. On Friday, you had a major blow out and pooped through your onesie, your jammies, and right through your swaddle. We have been using the Halo Sleepsack with swaddle arms. This has been Mommy's best friend ever since you grew out of the hospital blankets that we originally were swaddling you in. Later that evening as I was getting you ready for bed, I realized that your swaddle was still in the laundry room, unwashed and still full of poop. So I decided to put you to bed unswaddled and prepared myself for a sleepless night. But it wasn't, you only got up once because you kept itching your head and woke yourself up. I gave you the pacifier and you went back to sleep. Since we had so much success that night, we decided to try it again the following night and never looked back. You haven't needed the swaddle since. The swaddle is now washed and tucked away in your drawer.
As you can tell, sleep is a big deal for Mommy, probably because I do not get that much of it. You still are not sleeping through the night and only did once or twice back in month two. You love getting up to eat still at least once or twice a night. Dare I type this, but you have started to stretch out your sleep a little more this past week. You have been having a few five and six hour sleep stretches as opposed to the three to four that you normally do. I also had success twice this week where you woke up around 5am for your second feeding and I was able to get you back to sleep with just one attempt with the pacifier. You must not have been all that hungry!!!! This bought Mommy another hour or so of sleep. This may be the key of breaking you of the habit of the second feeding, definitely so far so good.
Your bedtime routine has been working out great for us and feel that we have a good thing going. You go to bed around 8pm-8:30pm each night and are asleep by 9pm. We have our little routine where we will dress you in your jammies at 8pm and then let you watch your Fisher Price Aquarium in your crib. After two rounds of the Aquarium, you have had enough of it and are ready for your bottle. We then turn on the sound machine which is set to 'Ocean' and will give you a bottle while sitting in your glider. We give you a bottle before bedtime instead of nursing so we know that you are getting enough food to hopefully sustain you for many hours of sleep! Daddy usually gives you the bottle, this is his time to feed and spend time with you. If you are really tired, you will go right to sleep after your bottle. If not, you will fuss a bit in your crib and we end up playing the pacifier game with you for fifteen minutes. We have also gone back to playing your seahorse which still seems to help you drift off to sleep. That seahorse has some amazing powers!
You are still in 0-3 size clothes, however, you just started to wear 6 month sleepers. You also still wear size one diapers and they fit you perfectly, I don't see us going to size twos for at least a few more weeks.
You are starting to laugh a lot more, and every now and then, you will let out the cutest giggle. I just live for those so I am always trying out new silly noises and faces to get you going. I am sure if anyone ever witnessed this, they would think I was a little on the crazy side! I still get your best laughs and giggles while changing you on your changing table.
You are a very laid back baby and not in any hurry to roll over or move just yet. You are finally becoming more comfortable with tummy time and will now lift your head up and look at us instead of just fussing and putting your head on the blanket. You would much rather lay on your back and look at the world around you!
You love your bouncy seat and baby gym. You could swat and pull at your little toys all day. You are finally able to pull the middle toy on your bouncy seat which is the one that makes all of the noise and music. You also love to sit in your bouncy seat and concentrate on your toys, you do this by staring intently at the toys while making a grunting noise. Figuring these things out is serious business, I know! I think you have inherited your Mommy and Daddy's analytical way of thinking. Accounting could very well be in your future too!
You had your four month doctor's appointment last week and you are weighing 13lbs 6oz, and are 24 inches long. Two feet tall! You are in the 50th percentile for all both. Your height has slowed a bit since your last appointment but that could change with your next growth spurt.
Your favorite toys are still your bouncy seat and baby gym. You LOVE your Sophie and will suck on her face all of the time. You also love your winkle and musical cell phone. You are comfortable sitting in your Bumbo seat and will sit there and play with your plastic keys or any other toy I give you.
You still love your bath time but don't kick as much as you used to because your legs are becoming so chunky! You don't let this get you down though and your splashes soak Mommy to the bone once you get those legs going. We currently bathe you in your tub on the bathroom counter, but I am thinking we are going to have to move your tub into the big tub. This way I am not cleaning up ten gallons of water all over the floor after every bath. I am sad to have to do this though because you love staring at yourself in the mirror as you kick.
Daddy mentioned putting together your high chair and jumperoo this weekend so we will see how that goes!!! More fun things for you to learn and explore.
