I feel like it has been such a long time since I blogged, certainly the longest I have gone since Jillian was born. Summer has been keeping us extremely busy around here which I can't complain about too much. Boy am I tired though! Unfortunately, since we are so busy, working out is again taking a back seat in the life of this busy Mom. I still managed to weigh myself this morning and was pleasantly surprised to have lost another pound. I think all of this running around from one BBQ to the next is my becoming my new work out regime.

My precious Jillian turned six months yesterday and I managed to squeeze in a photo shoot in her six month onesie on my day off today. Hopefully I can get to actually blog about it sometime in the next few days. Tomorrow I am scheduled to get a haircut and highlight and I am heavily considering bobbing it again for the Summer. I'll take pictures of the end result, hopefully it will turn out the way I have it pictured in my head. I apologize for the short and sweet post. It's 11:20pm and this Mommy is tired! I have to work tomorrow and I know I am going to be hating myself for being up so late when Jillian comes calling at 4am for her feeding. Yep, still not sleeping through the night. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this beautiful Summer!

I didn't end up having as good of week as I had hoped. Finding the time to work out with a baby is HARD! There were several times where I actually got as far as putting on my sports bra and either Jillian's nap ended earlier than I had hoped or something else came up.

I did end up working out twice this week with The Firm and walked around the neighborhood several times. It felt good to feel my muscles burning again. So here is my scale this morning:



I am STILL at the same weight I was last week which was 124 (the camera is still adding an extra pound). At least I didn't gain any weight back. I did actually weigh myself on Sunday and I did see 123. Perhaps a fluke but hopefully that means I am making some progress. I am just going to have to stick to my goal and workout when I can. I am trying to watch what I eat but I can't cut back too much since I am still breast feeding. I am having enough trouble trying to keep up my supply with her demand. My other weakness lately hapens to be these:



For whatever reason, we started buying them while I was on maternity leave and they seem to be a staple lately in our household. We are never without a bag. They are just so yummy!!!! I try to keep my servings to a minimum and will eat them with a veggie sub to offset the calories but who am I kidding? They are awesome! One complaint is their new biodegradable bag. Good for the environment, bad for a sleeping baby. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have tried opening up a bag of these chips with Jillian sleeping in her swing. The bag is that loud that her eyes will spring open just from touching the bag. Why does a bag of chips have to be loud just to be bioderadable?

I am also excited that I feel like I can finally shop for clothes for myself and that will actually fit now and when/if I lose a few more pounds. I am loving the ruffles trend lately. I can't get enough of them, I seem to gravitate towards any tops with ruffles on them.

I am totally going to date myself here, but does anyone else remember the Outback Red line from the Limited back in the 80's? Well they brought back that name brand this year. Here is an adorable Outback ruffle halter. They have certainly come along way since the long bulky sweaters that I used to own of theirs!!!!!



I also got this adorable Banana Republic dress at the outlet malls this weekend. I can't wait to wear it!

A Cyber Visit with The Twins

We had dinner at my parents house tonight to visit with my brother Jason. He was back in Cleveland on business and had to leave his beautiful twins back at home in Arkansas. Even though the twins and my sister in law could not be with us, we were still able to "visit" with them via Skype. This was the first time meeting the twins. Let me just say how tiny they are! I am so sad to think that I can barely recall Jillian at this age and it was only six months ago. It truly is amazing how quickly babies can change. I am trying to cherish every moment knowing in another six months it will be hard for me to even imagine her at the size she is now.

Weight Loss Challenge

With our upcoming vacation to Myrtle Beach, I need to get serious about losing a few pounds. That is why I decided to put myself out there, on my blog, to hold myself accountable to lose these last few annoying pounds of pregnancy weight. I gained a total of 40 pounds while I was pregnant. Certainly a lot more than I wanted to but thankfully have lost pretty much all of it so far. I seemed to have hit a plateau once I went back to work at the end of March. I have bottomed out at 124 pounds. It's a decent number, the one I started with when I became pregnant with Jillian, but not one I am happy with. Before my infertility treatments and miscarriages, I used to weigh 115. I even weighed 112 the day I got married. I don't think I will ever see 112 again but I am certainly going to aim for 115. I really want to lose those last few pounds so I can feel comfortable while I am on vacation and MAYBE even attempt to put my bikini back on. We shall see, I plan on buying a tankini too just incase I chicken out. Here is how I look this morning at five and a half months post partum.





Not exactly bikini ready but I am getting there. Another reason for this post is that I want to show you that losing those last few pounds can be easy with a little bit of hard work and dedication. No pain no gain, right?

Now for the weight loss challenge I am proposing to myself. To lose 9-10 pounds before I hit the beach. This is what I weighed this morning, can you believe the camera actually added a pound?



First, I want to first share with you my weight loss history. In my late twenties, around the time that Jeff and I were only dating, I noticed that my clothes weren't fitting as well as they used to. I never worked out and ate what I wanted, when I wanted. At the time, I was living with my sister in an apartment, and we didn't even own a scale. So I decided the next time I was at Target, I would pick one up. I was curious to see what in the world I had weighed to cause my clothes not to fit! I had always been a comfortable 120 pounds and a size 6. Needless to say, I was a bit surprised when I brought that scale home and it said 128! I was horrified. So I decided to make some lifestyle changes. I knew nothing about eating healthy or working out. I was so not the athlete. I had tried aerobics classes before but barely made it through without wanting to die. But right there and then I decided that I needed to change my ways and quick. I bought the South Beach Diet book and signed up for the gym at work. I am very fortunate to work for such a large company that even has a gym for employee use. That has made working out easy and convenient. Pre-baby, I had no excuse why I couldn't run downstairs on my lunch hour and have a good work out. So after three weeks of eating only "Good" carbs according to the South Beach diet guru's and exercising 4-5times a week, I lost eight pounds. I was back to my comfortable 120. I was so proud of myself that I kept on working out and ate a somewhat healthy diet. I was actually starting to ENJOY my aerobics classes. I was bonding with my work peers and found myself becoming stronger. I was finally able to make it through a grueling aerobics class without having to leave for a few minutes to catch my breath. I stayed away from fast foods, sweets, and my ultimate weakness, potato chips. Besides those few exceptions, I pretty much ate whatever I wanted. After several months of this, I was down to 117 pounds and was a size 4. I pretty much kept this lifestyle up even after we got married. I was finally an athlete. I had muscle tone for the first time in my life and I actually had a cute butt! I loved having muscle tone and feeling good about myself. It only kept me motivated to keep it up. Working out consistently with aerobics and strength training totally reshaped my body. My weight for a few years consistently stayed around 112-117 pounds just by working out 3-5 days a week. I was maintaining my weight and I was happy. The moral of my story is that if a very uncoordinated and very nonathletic me could do it, anyone can!

Then the ugliness of miscarriage and infertility came into my life. That ugly vicious cycle of not working out because of the fear that I might be hurting my swollen ovaries, the stitches from my laproscopy, or if I was pregnant for those brief few weeks, the baby. After dealing with a three year struggle with infertility and miscarriages and not working out consistently, I was back up to weighing 124. So that is how I got to where I was when I finally became pregnant with Jillian.

I have barely worked out since I have given birth. An aerobics class here and there and my nightly walks around the neighborhood with Jillian have not made an impact at all. The reason why is clear. My muscle tone is gone and I am not burning any calories at a resting state from the lack of muscle tone. My evening walks around the neighborhood are not going to get me to where I want to be. I am still breast feeding but I think I have lost what I am going to with that. It's been good to me and has certainly helped lose the pregnancy weigh but I think I have maxed out it's benefits since I haven't lost any more weight since the end of March. Since I am still breast feeding, I am really not able to diet, just stay away from the obviously bad choices like fast food and sweets. Attempting the South Beach Diet again is definitely out of the question until I am done breast feeding. So I am going back to working out 3-5 days a week starting today. One of the most important lessons that I learned in my weight loss journey several years ago was aerobic activity alone did not help me lose that much weight. It was a combination of strength training and aerobic activity. My favorite aerobics class was High Impact Aerobics mixed with intervals of strength training. We would perform aerobics for four minutes, and then perform strength training for four minutes. This would be repeated through out the fifty minute class. Let's be honest, I can't go to a gym anymore like I used to with a new baby, and I have only been able to get to my gym at work once or twice a week with my part time schedule. So working out at home is where it is going to have to happen. The closest thing I have found to my favorite aerobics interval class is The Firm. The Firm is awesome. It's aerobics classes mixed with strength training intervals taught by these cute Southern girls. I believe the original FIRM is in a gym located in South Carolina. Several years ago I bought two different Firm workouts at Target. My favorite one came with a resistance bar and the infamous Fanny Lifter.

Here is what I plan on using in my workouts. The Firm Fanny lifter, resistance bar, a set of 3 pound weights, and my Firm videos.


Our Den has easily been converted into my home gym. Throw in a TV, a VCR, and a DVD player and I am ready to go!!!!



Did you know that one pound = 3500 calories? I have a lot of calories to burn before I hit the beach but I am up to the challenge. I am getting excited just thinking about starting with The Firm program again. It's easy and it's fun. And most of all, it's not intimidating and can be done in the comfort of your own home. You can also relate to these women in the videos! I plan on giving an update on my progress every Tuesday, which is my day off. Well, I am off to work out now, hopefully I have also motivated a few of you to join me. I would love to hear about your weight loss and success stories too so please leave a comment! What's In Your Target Bag?

I thought it would be fun to share what I bought at Target on Friday. Jillian and I spent at least two hours there! I felt like trying on a few cute outfits that I found but in the end opted to just get Jillian some clothes. I just couldn't make a decision and when I get to a point where I am that indecisive about clothes for myself, I need to walk away for a few days and then go back if I decide I want it.

Here is what I bought:




  • Two pack of Target Home Iron flag poles for our flower beds. I am planning on buying a monogrammed initial flag that I found on Bed, Bath, & Beyonds website.

  • Coppertone Waterbabies sunscreen for Jillian. I am starting to prepare for our trip to Myrtle Beach. So excited!!!!

  • Anti-Bacterial Dialsoap. I bought four of these, we are constantly running out of hand soap in our house ever since Jillian was born.

  • Black Mossimo flip flops for Jeff.

  • Black Mossimo jeweled flip flops for me, so cute!

  • Medela breast pump wipes.

  • Circo pink shorts for Jillian - Size 6 months.

  • Circo pink ruffle pants for Jillian - Size 6 months.

TGIF!!!

I am so happy it's Friday. Even though I was only at work for two days this week, it was a crazy two days trying to get through all of my monthly close duties. I am just happy it is done and over with and I am at home now with my baby girl for the weekend!

I was so sad this morning when I read that the oil spill may be hitting Myrtle Beach by July. The whole situation is just a horrible tragedy and it's just hard for me to believe that these beautiful beaches are going to be affected by all of this. Our family owns a condo in Myrtle Beach and we have vacationed there every year for the past ten years. This year will be extra special for us because it will be our first Myrtle Beach vacation with Jillian. I know there are a lot of "ifs" on whether or not the oil will hit the Carolina coast. I just hope that BP will find a solution soon to contain the spill so our country's beautiful beaches can be spared.

This Louisiana Pelican is such a heart breaking sight to see.



On a happier note, our builder has broken ground on the next phase in our development. Such a positive sign that the economy is starting to make a move in a positive direction. This new phase is going to extend along the nature preserve and connect two main roads within the development. We have been told this phase was going to open two years ago and it is finally happening! I took a few pictures of all the crazy construction on one of my walks. I am constantly hearing the humming and banging from all the construction from the inside of my house all day long. The phase is set to open in July so only two more months of this chaos.





My smarty pants little girl has learned to turn on her Fisher Price Aquarium herself now. I have been woken up several times this week at 3am to the chirping of crickets and the lullaby music coming from this thing. It's beyond adorable right now but I am sure after a few weeks, I may be removing the batteries each night as a part of our bedtime routine.



This little girl loves to stick her tongue out at everything lately. I don't know if it has to do with teething on her bottom two teeth or what but all of her pictures lately have her cute little tongue sticking out.

Memorial Day Weekend

We had such a wonderful, long weekend! The way my work schedule is laid out, I was able to have five days in a row off. I really enjoyed my extended break from work to spend with my family.

Our Memorial Day weekend began early Friday afternoon. Jeff was able to leave the office a little early so we decided to head to one of our community parks and enjoy the outdoors.



We walked around the beautiful lake.








Fed the baby ducks and geese.




And created a few new Summer memories as a family.




On Saturday, we hung around the house. Jeff mulched the yard while I straightened up the house and did 85 loads of laundry. It was so nice to hang around the house and get a few things done. I loved not having any plans. It was nice to have the day for just the 3 of us!

On Sunday, family and friends came over our house for a BBQ. The thunder storms delayed our lunch, but didn't dampened our spirits. It was great for everyone to get together on such a blessed Memorial Day. Later that evening we had a blast at the block party in our cul-de-sac.






What block party is not complete without a bounce house? I wish Jillian would have been old enough to enjoy it! Maybe in a few years.




We had such a fun and exciting weekend! I was so thankful to have Tuesday off too just to unwind and catch my breath! I hope everyone had a great weekend!!! Enjoy your shortened work week!
