It's a girl!!!!

I can't believe we are having a little girl, I am just beside myself with happiness. Jeff and I were both really nervous before the ultrasound, Jeff admitted to me afterwards that he was an absolute wreck beforehand but didn't want to get me all worked up. I was nervous too but not to the extent that he was it seems. We had the same woman from our 12 week ultra sound which we were very thrilled about. She is always so sweet and patient with all of our questions. Everything measured beautifully and she is still measuring four days ahead of schedule again. We may be meeting her sooner than Christmas Eve!!!!
Jeff and I went straight to Target afterwards which happens to be right next to our doctor's office. We bought her the adorable pink and brown outfit above. I wanted to get her a dress but all they had were summer dresses and I don't think she would be wearing that come this December! After our Target trip, we headed to The Winking Lizard for dinner. The weather tonight was beautiful so we were able to enjoy our food outside. Jeff even celebrated our good news with a few beers, it sounded like he needed one!!!
One note of concern that I wanted to mention because I am hoping someone can offer me some kind of advice or reassurance. Once we got home, our doctor called. He started off by saying that he reviewed our ultrasound and everything looked great, she was measuring as she should be. He did find something called an amniotic band. I had never heard of this so I didn't even know what to ask. He explained that it is a band that stretches from one wall of my uterine cavity to another, however, it poses a very low and rare risk to the baby. He kept insisting that there was a rare chance that anything would come out of it and she would just kick it away once she grew. We just have to go back at 28 weeks to check up on it again. He mentioned, if anything, we get to see our little girl again.
Of course we google Amniotic Band to find out what the heck it even was. It appears that if it does accidentally get tangled around her fingers, toes, arms or legs, it can cause something called Amniotic Band Syndrome which can cause a birth defect because it limits the growth of anything it gets wrapped around. We are certainly worried and now a little less excited at the outcome of our ultrasound. We are hoping for the best though and just trying to listen to the doctor that the chance of anything happening is rare. On the positive side, we get to see our little girl again. I am trying not to worry about it unless I have to.

  1. How exciting! Congrats on joining Team Pink!

I don't know anything about the Amniotic Band, but it sounds like the good news is that they're continuing to monitor it!

  3. Congratulations on the little girl!!! About the amniotic band, I've never ever heard of it so unfortunately can't offer an advice but I'm sure your in good care with your doctor so I'd try my absolute best not to worry and pray that everything turns out all right as I know it will. You've come too far for it not to.

  12. A girl! Congrats to you both.

Yes, amnotic band syndrome is rare and the chances that something upsetting will happen are quite small. Sounds like you have a good doc who will be watching this. That's excellent. Happy pink shopping!
