Something to Talk About

Hello and welcome to my 'Home'. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I know I did, the weather in Cleveland was amazing. Sunny, blue skies, and eighty degree temperatures all weekend long. We couldn't ask for a more perfect weekend. Since I do not work on Fridays and Tuesdays, this has turned into an unexpected five day weekend for me. I am one happy girl!

I wanted to take a minute to welcome all of my new followers. It seems that I have gained several since my Target gift card give away, the D List Blog Hop and the D List Twitter party. So hello and welcome!! I also wanted to take a moment to ask you all a few simple questions and have a chat about blogs in general. Since I have signed up for the D List and other Mommy Blogger networks, I have come to find a never ending network of blogs. There are just so many, I wish I could find the time to read them all. Let's be honest, as a new Mom, I am simply not able to. So I try to stick to my favorites and will add a few to my Google reader or become a follower if they meet my 'blog stalker' criteria. What attracts you to a blog? What makes you push that 'Follow' button on a blog? This is where I would love to hear from you and get your perspective on what attracts you to a blog and what brings you back. How do you keep up with all of your blogs? I will share with you what I like and why I blog.

First of all, I blog for me AND you. I blog for US. I created this blog for myself, not really thinking anyone else would really be concerned too much about what was going on in my life. But I have found that this is such a fun way to connect with others. I enjoy blogging so much and the friendships that I have formed are the most important aspect. I am grateful for each and every one of my readers and consider you my friends.

Do you share your blog with your family and friends? I originally had not planned on it. This was a way for me to get my feelings out without having to worry about what other's close to me thought. Eventually I let my Mom and Sister (hi there!) read my blog and a few other family members. They love seeing all of the pictures of us and finding out what is going on in our life that we may have forgot to talk about in person. Honestly, not too many of my friends know about my blog, a few have found out about it by accident. I am not ready to go posting a link on my facebook page or anything like that. I don't want my co-workers to read how miserable I am since going back to work. I guess this blog is sometimes a little too personal for me and I would like to keep it that way, at least for now.

I love a blog and blog posts with a lot of pictures. If a blog post is all content, I find myself getting bored very easily and won't come back knowing that I will never see a picture. I love getting a glimpse into a bloggers daily life and that just doesn't happen without pictures.

I always try to leave a comment on the blogs I read, especially if I am a new follower to the blog. I think it's polite to introduce yourself and let that blogger know that you like her style and like what she has to say. I have to admit, I am not a big fan of DISQUS comments. Several of my favorite bloggers have gone this route recently and half the time I don't even think my comment was accepted. There are just too many hoops to jump through when filling out the information. I guess it's easier for the blogger, but for the reader, it's too much of a hassle. I have read posts on other blogs where readers don't even like the comment verification option in Blogger. As for now, I have removed my comment verification. You are free to leave a comment and not have to go through all of those extra steps. I love hearing from my readers so I am trying to make things as easy as possible for you.

I love blogs that will mix their topics up a bit. As a new Mom, I love seeing pictures of other babies, but I also want to read posts about other things going on in your life too. I always love home decor posts and new recipes to try. Blog posts about that just never gets old to me. Did you find the time to re-decorate a room in your home recently? Take a picture of it! I would love to see what you have done! We are all looking for new ways to decorate, and on the cheap. Did you go shopping lately and find some great new product or sale? Let us know!!!

I love receiving awards and have received several in the last few months and plan on acknowledging them all in a post very soon. They are always appreciated and I am flattered that you thought of me when handing them out.

Those are just a few of my thoughts on blogging and a few questions that I have been wanting to ask for some time now. Blogging is just such a fun and exciting hobby for me. It's a way to share my life with people that I have so much in common with that I probably would have never met in real life. Please feel free to share your thoughts with anything that I have touched on.

  1. Hi Karen,

I just started reading your blog a few days ago. I was initially attracted to your blog because you are into decorating your home, and you LOVE Target just like me! You have the most adorable baby, and you talk about your daily life. I get great tips and ideas for when I become a homeowner ( hopefully soon).

I just started blogging not even a week ago. I have not told my family and friends because they don't get what its all about. I love it, I love reading, I love posting and can't wait to establish some bloggy friendships.

  2. I started reading your blog like when you were 8 months pregnant. I think the combination of the pregnancy (after fertility) and the house pictures attracted me. Anyway, I don't always leave comments on blogs. I don't expect anyone to read my blog...it is straight up boring. I just write a family journal. NO one except my family will be interested in that. I don't do any crafts, but I love see'ing what people do...so maybe one day!

  3. Oh and one more thing. This is VERY important about liking someone's blog. You can always tell when someone is either fake or writing with honesty and sincerity. I like honest and sincere blogs! :)

  4. I've been reading your blog for a little while now. I still consider myself "new" to blogging and there are so many things that I love about your layout, buttons, etc that I just don't know how to do! Your little girl is adorable!

  5. I just found your blog from Jennifer blog. I think for me what attracts me at first is the look of the blog, if it is boring and frumpy then I leave right away, I know thats sad but its an easy way for my to not read a million. I also love to read blogs about children of course because I have two and about photography :)

I initally started my blog as a project 365 (a picture per day), but it got to overwhelming so I stopped, but I'm going to continue to blog when I get the urge, so keep following me!
