How to Show Screenshots on Blogger

I received a comment recently from my bloggy friend Paula wanting to know how I create computer screenshots for my 'Tips to a Better Blog' posts.  The answer is this, I use the 'Snipping Tool' that comes with the WindowsXP program on our desktop computer.  I am not sure if there are any other screen shot tools out there, I just happen to stumble upon this tool when I was trying to figure out how other bloggers were uploading their Christmas card photo cards to their blog.  If there are other screen shot tools out there that you like to share, we would love to hear from you!!

{WindowsXP Snipping Tool Tutorial}
  • First, you want to find the 'Snipping Tool' in your WindowsXP Application.  Go to the Windows Icon on the bottom left hand corner of your computer.  Click on it.  Your cursor immediately goes to the Search bar.
  • Type in 'Snipping Tool' into the Search bar.
  • You will see the 'Snipping Tool' application pop up at the top of your Windows Menu.  There will be a little scissors icon in front of the name of the application.
  • Put your cursor over the name and double click.
  • You will see your whole screen fade as a box pops up in the middle of your screen.  This is the 'Snipping Tool'.
  • Click the 'New' Button which is on the left most side of the box.
  • Your screen will fade again and your cursor will turn into a plus sign.  You may have to click the 'New' Button twice for the plus cursor to pop up.
  • Click and drag the plus sign cursor over the area that you would like to capture, or "freeze" into a picture.
  • Another window will pop up, this is the image that you have captured.
  • Now you want to save the image to a folder in your computer.  A 'Save As' box will appear where you can navigate to the folder that you want to save your image in.  The 'Save As Type' will default to a jpeg which is what you want.  Blogger pictures are jpeg files so this is the type that is most appropriate for your blog.
  • Hit the 'Save' Button.
  • Now your captured image is saved on your computer.
  • Create your blog post, when you are ready to upload your image, you will go through the steps as if you would inserting a regular picture into your blog.
I hope this tutorial has provided you with a few 'Tips to a Better Blog'.  This is how I do it, if there are other methods out there, I would love to hear from you!!

  3. Love the series. It's so great!! Another great program is "snag-it". You can take screen shots and edit them, circle things on them, highlight, etc. Very easy to use!

  7. Oh, thanks for the how-to! I usually just hit "Alt" and "Print Sc" to paste it into Paint so I can crop. Your way might be faster.

    Thanks so much for linking up to my Weekend Bloggy Reading party. :)
