DIY Custom Birth Announcement

I came across custom birth announcements one day on Etsy and I immediately wanted one for Jillian and our Baby Boy.  I love how you can custom tailor the colors of the birth announcement to the colors of your nursery.   It's the perfect wall art for any nursery - boy or girl!!

Coincidentally, I also noticed recently on my friend Jenna's blog that she had something similar hanging in her daughter Brynn's nursery.  Since I was hoping to purchase one for Jillian and Baby Boy's room, I asked her one day where she had ordered it from.  I was expecting her to tell me she ordered it off of Etsy, however, you can imagine how shocked I was when she told me she made it herself and with Power Point!!

One goal I have set out to accomplish this year for myself is to learn how to make printables. Whether it is with an application like Photoshop, Microsoft Pubshliser or some other tool, I really want to learn how to make fun printables and graphics.  I have a bit of a printable obsession these days and would love to learn how to make a few for myself.  I was so thankful when Jenna emailed me her slide and explained how she went about creating it.  It was the perfect start I needed to learn how to play around with a pre-made printable.  The only thing I had to do on my end was to learn how to download the custom font she used, re-create the slide with my baby's birth announcement and change the color scheme to match the nursery.

One afternoon I put Jillian down for a nap and decided to tackle my project.  The first step was to download the ARSIS font that Jenna had used in creating her birth announcement.  Downloading a custom font was a little tougher than I initially thought but I was up for the challenge! I really wanted to learn how to do this.  God bless Google is all I have to say.  What did we even do before Google?  It took me a whole nap time to figure it out but I finally did it!!!  I hope to go into more detail in a separate post on how to download a fun free font.  I imagine there are others out there like me who would love to learn how to do this.  Now that I know how to do it, I have downloaded several other fonts onto my computer and now have a new obsession for fun free fonts!!  I am certainly not your average Times New Roman gal anymore!

Once I figured out how to add the newly downloaded font to my Power Point application, the rest was pretty easy.  I changed the colors of the PowerPoint slide to match the green and pink shades in Jillian's room and updated the birth announcement to reflect Jillian's information.

I printed off Jillian's new birth announcement using our regular HP home printer and paper.  Card stock is probably a better option for this project and for most printables, however, I didn't have any around and couldn't wait to see how it looked in print!

I think it turned out super cute!!!  I bought a frame at Michael's, centered the printable in the frame, and propped it up on the shelf in Jillian's room.  Easy peasy!!  I am so pleased with how it turned out and can't wait to create one for our Baby Boy!!!!
